On August 28, 2010, 18 year old Brantley Pearce died in an automobile accident. The Durham Emergency Chaplains arrived on scene, and were able to provide comfort not just to the grieving families, but the first responders themselves. Karen Pierce, Brantley’s mother recounts the moments leading up to the accident and how because of the Durham Emergency Chaplains she was able to create a memorial foundation in Brantley’s Honor to help other first responders and their families process through the immense stress and pressure that they go through each and every shift.
